Remembering Moses Malone...

We lost one of the legends of the original ABA over the weekend, and one of the greatest players of all time in the NBA too. Moses was the first high school athlete to go directly into pro ball when he signed his ABA contract. And while his major fame came with the NBA, he never forgot his ABA roots and was always a friend and supporter of our league. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Malone family. When you think of some of the remarkable players that Dick Tinkham and his associates signed, it is truly amazing. The NBA thought they had the best players then. Well Dr. J, George Gervin, Spencer Haywood, Rick Barry, Connie Hawkins, Roger Brown, Mel Daniels, Dan Issel, Marvin Barnes, Larry Brown and Moses and many others showed the world that the NBA didn't have the best players then - and guess what -

they still don't. Just a myth they continue to perpetuate. And that's the reason why they won't play exhibition games or allow the D-League to play exhibition games vs ABA teams. Thanks to Moses and the others who created our brand - we have sustained and grown and become a major part of the fabric of American sports.
