Indianapolis, IN. After a several year hiatus, the American Basketball Association (ABA) www.americanbasketballassociation.org will resume play in Mexico when the highly-ranked Baltimore Hawks visit Mexicali Mexico to take on the defending champion Soles de Mexicali in pre-season exhibition games. "We are very pleased that
Greg Brown, owner of the Hawks, was able to arrange these games," stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman. "ABA teams were always warmly received in Mexico, the competition was very good and I hope this is the predecessor of more to come."
The Baltimore Hawks won the Mid-Atlantic Division Championship last season, were ranked as high as #3 and were voted ABA Expansion Team of the Year. They are led by forward Jarwand Rheubottom and guard Dishawn Bradshaw.
Zach Graham of Soles de Mexicali led his entire league in scoring. "We are very pleased and proud to be going to Mexico and to help resume play between our countries," added Brown. "The ABA actually had teams in Juarez, Tijuana,
Hermisillo, and Mexico City. Hopefully this will be the stepping stone for new teams to return. Soles de Mexicali is a very good team, it won't be easy and we're looking forward to the challenge."
